My summer vacation

We had a long summer vacation because of save electricity. I spent almost my summer vacation to my circle ESS.

From August eight to thirteen, we had a summer camp. About 80 people went to this camp. In summer camp, we had a speech, discution, devate and drama. We must speak only English in this camp. During summer camp, we coudn't sleep so long because plactice was so hard. I am member of Drama section, so I taught drama to freshman.

In october 28, 29 and 30, we are going to perform a play on the stage. We perform at the auditorium in Sophia university building 1. We performe "Mamma Mia!" in English. It's a musical. I am in charge of make and costume. I bought a lot of dress. By the way, do you know what does the word "Mamma Mia" mean? "Mamma Mia" is Italian. "Mamma" means mom, "mia" means mine in English. It ordinaly use like an exclamation. "Mamma mia" means "Oh my god." I want to all the people who come to the theater will enjoy our performance.
I practice this drama since september. I practice dance and sing. It was so hard but interesting. My summer vacation's memory was this practice.

I'm Mao. How are you? I spend a wonderful weekend. In my English club, we held a skit contest. Do you know skit? Skit is a short drama. Generally it takes between ten and twenty minutes. We divided the freshman into four groups. Sophomore and junior did directors and sub directors. Each four groups did "Cinderella". But it is not ordinary "Cinderella". We did original one. Each group's director made a script.

In my group, we did "Cinderella Man". In this story, Cinderella is a man. So, all the characters are men. Let me show you our ''Cinderella Man" story. Cinderella Man's brothers are always hard on him. One day, prince's servant came to Cinderella Man's house. The servant gave them a letter from prince and teaches them that prince will going to have a party. So, brothers go to the castle. They leave Cinderella Man. Cinderella Man want to go to the party too. So, he begins to cry. Then a witch appears. When witch cast a spell, Cinderella Man gets beautiful clothes. He goes to a castle with beautiful cloths. When he arrive a castle, he meet a prince. Prince fell in love with Cinderella Man at first sight. They dance in the party and Cinderella man also loves prince. But Cinderella return at 12 o'clock because the witch's magic can continue just until 12 o'clock. Cinderella Man drops his glasses when he leaves. So, prince decides to search the man who fit the glasses. It was terrible to find a guy who fit the glasses. Finally he can find out the man, so prince proposes to Cinderella Man. Of course, he accepts his propose.

The practice was very interesting. We really enjoyed it. In this skit the freshman who plays Cinderella Man gets a prize of "Best actor". We were happy to hear that. We got good memory in this skit contest.

Hello. How are you going? I feel great, because we finished the stage of drama. Our performance took place at 22 and 24. That was great! There is the reason to feel such impressed. Our practice is very hard every time. We practice a drama 6 day a week for 3 months. Moreover, the earthquakes kept out us of the stage. (Sophia university hall of building 1) We had to consider about where we would do the performance. We decided to do in a class room once. But class room was too small to do the performance, and we could not use sound and light effects efficiently. Therefore, we waited to finish the maintenances of the hall. But it was a big mistake. We could not use the hall in June and even July. Soon after hearing that news we changed the decision, but it was too late. We could not use any class room at Saturday or Sunday owing to a round-table conference. At last we could not avoid using it at Wednesday and Friday. We worried how many people could come to see our performance. But at the day of our performance, many ESS members came. I’m impressed so much. Thus, this performance became a memorable one.

We did the drama the title is "Shawshank Redemption". The original was Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption which is printed in Different Seasons. It was written by Stephen Edwin King. "Shawshank Redemption" is a film directed by Frank Darabont. Do you know the story of "Shawshank Redemption"? I think it is a famous movie in the world. In fact, the movie was nominated for seven Academy Awards in 1994: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Original Score and Best Sound Mixing. The film's Academy Award nominations enabled it to fare well in the video sales and cable TV viewing. It is a story of a bank clerk who was made a false charge. He is trying to find a hope in the Shawshank prison. In the movie all most all casts are men. But our performance of drama, two women came on the stage.

In this drama, I took charge of cloth and make-up artist. I bought clothes in Harajyuku. It was challenging to how to manage on a small budget. But it was interesting to find a cloth which was suited for actors and actress. It was also interesting to find way of make-up to pretend old man. I like this job as a member of drama section. In next our performance, I want to take charge of cloth and make-up artist again!

Let me introduce my self.

My name is Mao Shinohara. I am a student at Sophia University. I am sophomore. I am 20 years old. My major is French literature. I study French every day. I went to France this year for a month. I really enjoyed training the language. After that, I went to Paris. I saw Eiffel tower, a triumphal gateway, and so on. It was very interesting. I had hoped to live there in the future.  And I study English as well. I belong to English club named E.S.S. E.S.S stand for the "English Speaking Society". In this club, there are four sections: speech, discussion, debate and drama. I belong to drama section. We perform drama in English. We decide the director, the stage manager, light technician, sound technician, and so on. The director decides a subject, and we practice it for two months, and after it, we perform the drama in public. I am cloth and make-up artist in this drama. Cloth and make-up artist decide what kind of cloth, and what kind of make-up the actors should do. At the same time, I act as an actress. The practice is not easy, but I learn many things from it, not only English, but how act to express my feeling, or something. There are our performances two times a year in Sophia University building 1. Next performance will be at the end of June. The subject is Shawshank Redemption. I wish you will come to see it, if you can.

Next is about my dream.
I want to be a designer and design many cloths. For it, I go to many countries and look up various cloths, in the future I want to have my own shop. So French and English is very important for me. To be an ideal designer, I have to learn English and French now. Of course, I also learn about cloths. I work in Raraport of Toyosu. I ask customers what kind of cloths they want, and I give the cloths like it. Sometimes I mistake, but I think I learn more than that.  Like that, I will go to my dream without giving up.
At the last, I introduce my enjoyable things these day, and my boyfriend.
I became sophomore, so freshman come to ESS. I become senior. I have to teach about ESS and Drama Section to freshman. I am afraid to do it, at the same time, I look forward to it. When I was freshman, I thought the seniors were great, and smart so much. I decided to follow them. But, can I let freshman feel the same feeling? I will do my best for it, because the good senior can change the juniors’ destiny as I was done.
By the way, my boyfriend is the senior of drama section. He is very smart and kind. I respect him all time. His logic and concentration is stand out. He understands anything logically, and he can explain it as I can understand it. He doesn’t take any mistake, but I do. Thinking about it, I cannot be a good senior. Otherwise, he said to me, "I am not a good senior, I can be so to you, but other people may not think so. Everyone must not respect one person. But if you become kind and hard every time to freshman, they must follow you. You have what I don't have. You are attractive." I love him so much, and he loves me, too. I decided to be a good senior.
